Power

The biggest draws on power are the below:

  1. AC/Heater split system

  2. Electric stovetop

  3. FLOORBOARD HEATERS (controlled with white dials): These use the most power of any item in the space. Please keep to 75 or below.

  4. Sauna

ONLY RUN TWO of the above at the same time and DON’T run the floorboard heaters and sauna at same time.

The Rambler runs off of solar and grid. There are a number of best practices to follow to avoid tripping a breaker - please read below to ensure a seamless power supply during your stay.

Best Practices

1) DON’T run floorboard heaters (controlled with white dials) and sauna at the same time.

2) Only use AC/heater when in tiny home - don’t leave on if you leave for the day.

3) Turn off Sauna when done!

WiFi

The Rambler has satellite WiFi available for all guests to use.

Network: therambler

The worldwide web is yours to explore. Service is usually sufficient to stream HD video from one device.

AC/Heater/

Adjacent to the light switches on the front wall is the controller for the AC/Heater. Hit the “On/Off” button to start cooling or heating. You MUST point controller at wall unit (above kitchen area) to ensure it connects.

TIP: Heating and cooling will begin 1-2 minutes after you turn on the unit as the compressor turns on. You will hear a whirring just outside the bathroom when on.

The wall mount will have a green light in the bottom right corner to indicate it’s on and running.

Making Coffee

We offer a french press for coffee making. If you’re unfamiliar, follow the below link for instructions.

Visit the below for a step-by-step. BREW HERE.

An electric grinder is provided for grinding the whole beans.

TIP: 2 tablespoons of coffee grinds for every 6oz of water.

The grounds and water will go into the french press.

Use the electric kettle for boiling water.

Composting Toilet

Going #1: Female, male, or however you identify, please take a seat and do your business. Your pee will naturally divert to the front. If you use toilet paper, drop into the container for solid waste.

Going # 2: Sit, the flap will automatically open, do your business, and, when finished, place all toilet paper in the bowl.

TIP: to open the flap when standing, press down firmly on the front of seat.

Cooking

Cooking at The Rambler is done with an electric stovetop. Steps for using are below:

1) A pot/pan must be on the "burner" in use for the power to turn on.
2) Hit the power button for "burner" being used when pot/pan is on stovetop.
3) You can control the heat by tapping up or down on the buttons for the "burner" in use.

Please let us know if you have any questions.

When using the barbecue, the propane is typically turned off at the tank. Open the valve on the propane tank and use the electric flame starter on the right (small circular button) to ignite and use the grill.

Pots, pans & cookware are located in the tiny home and barbecue ware will be next to the barbecue.

Happy Cooking!

Sauna

  1. TURN OFF FLOORBOARD HEATERS BEFORE TURNING ON SAUNA.

  2. Start heating ~1 hour before you plan to use sauna.

  3. Rotate dial to desired temperature (indicated at top of screen). We recommend 150-170, particularly if you’re new to using a sauna.

  4. Press the dial in once and the heating will begin. (Indicated by 3 squiggly lines rising off of the sauna room temperature.)

SAUNA BEST PRACTICES/GUIDELINES

  1. Limit use to 20 minutes, particularly if new to saunas.

  2. Exit immediately if uncomfortable, dizzy or sleepy.

  3. Supervise children at all times and recommended minimum age of 16 for sauna use.

Enjoy your time in the sauna and PLEASE POWER DOWN WHEN DONE WITH SAUNA.

POWERING DOWN: Hit the dial once and the small squiggly lines will disappear indicating that the sauna is off.

Wildlife

Be Snake Aware. Rattlesnakes may be found in this area. They will not attack, but if disturbed or cornered, they will defend themselves. Give them distance and respect if seen or heard. High season is typically April, May & June.

Coyotes are generally not a concern for humans, but, particularly for those with small children or dogs, please be aware of their possible presence in the vicinity.

There is plenty of local wildlife beyond the previous two, almost all of which you’re far more likely to see during your stay. Please be respectful and enjoy.
